Simulate a keyboard event (keypress) on kernel level without X [on hold]

I want to write in C a simple program that once run it will generate a keypress, say letter k, on kernel level. I dont have X. It is a light embedded Linux box. The scenario is this: User B is viewing locally a Web GUI. Remote user A ssh's to the box and runs this executable. User B sees the response on his screen as if he pressed keyboard button k. As I can only compile with a toolchain I have for this box in C, I am limited to this language only :(

Any ideas?
