Securely delete a single file that was already deleted

I have a case where a sensitive file was already deleted, but it was deleted using rm, meaning that the file may be recoverable. I understand that there is the possibility of trying to write until the disk is full or shredding the partition and starting over, but that is probably overkill (and potentially impractical) for this particular case.
