I am thinking over replacing a quite old iptables-based firewall server with a small "Linux box" Intel Atom-based board. Most of them have a Compact Flash or SSD as storage: since this firewall serves many clients and networks, it has an intense logging activity. Reducing or disabling logging is not an option, because we need to keep track of connections, so I am wondering if using a CF or SSD is a good idea, or if it is better to remain on mechanical HDDs.
Do you have any experience?
