Is it worthy to spend time for learning the nix package manager, the nix language?

Let's appraise that new package manager. I would like to know advantages and disadvantages. But I'm only an advanced user. I dont know much about that It would be interesting to enumerate under this question all possible advantages and disadvantages of nix package manager everyone can think out

For example the nix package language is seemed to me more difficult than other linux package formats. So it would be problematic for advanced users to create user configurations in contrast to for example Arch User Repository.

Because you know I was surprised that the nix pm is advertised as a next generation pm but I didnt found any detailed analisys of it. May be it has some pitfalls or doesn't any.
