Need help with Shady situation

So I met this stranger on IRC offering me a vps(i asked for one in main(to borrow)). the VPS is a Linux(Debian) with 8GB RAM and 100gb storage and he gave me root access with full ownership and everything(except cpanel of hosting site I believe), I accepted this deal about 10 hours ago(it was legit, he gave me it).

[On-Topic Part] To be clear, I don't do any malicious activity anyhow. but a VPS like that isnt something in my eyes to let down(its my first VPS too). Am I at risk? What should I do protect myself if this guy turns out to be not so nice and watching my every move?

P.S: I plan on using this VPS mainly for Rust Development(https://rust-lang.org) on Cloud9
