How to set up persistence on kali linux live USB while booting from it

I have a kali linux live USB and I want to set up persistence on it. Unfortunately, I do not have another device running linux and the only way for me to access linux is while booting through the USB. All the tutorials I have seen require me to be running linux NOT from the USB. Is there any method by which I can set up persistence through windows or while running kali linux from the USB?
