Correct terminology for text output: console, terminal or terminal window?

When there is a program that writes some text (e.g. think of a simple printf("Hello World\n");, is it more correct to say that the program writes text to the console , or that the program writes text to a terminal window (think e.g. of a terminal window in Ubuntu desktop), or just to the program writes text to the terminal ?
