After crash: Phantom input signals

My (debian 8/kde) system did an emergency heat shutdown while playing a game. After reboot (bios wanted me to wait until the cpu had cooled down enough) the system runs as usual. Largely. I can watch movies, surf the net, play games and do all kinds of updates and maintenance.

One thing isn't as before though: When playing a game there is a continuous pull to the lower right. The cursor is steady however. Other than that, the system has all the indications of a buffer not cleared and old input signals still being sent.

Have restarted multiple times to no avail. Have deleted and reinstalled the game that caused the shutdown to no avail.

Is there any way an input signal can be stuck on infinite repeat even after a hard reset? It seems affect affect multimedia applications can work on input states and not desktop application that work on input events.

If the symptoms were more varied I'd assume a hardware defect. But with only games developing the same problem across the board while everything else works perfectly this sounds more like a software glitch.
