(elementary os luna) Geary mail client terribly slow in starting

I am using elementary os luna. I like the OS. It is simple and it is fast. One thing I do nut understand is the standard mail client: Geary. First, it was fast. But now it takes a long time before it is ready to use. During startup, I see an icon in the bottom, which indicates geary is 'loading', but I do not understand why it takes so long.

Does anyone have a suggestion?
